Images on this page are full airbrush makeup, this means the foundation, lips, eye shadow, contour and blush are airbrushed onto the face, only eyeliner and mascara are hand done. Most of the time makeup artists for beauty looks just airbrush the foundation, on contour and blush. Airbrush is heavily used in Special effects makeups and bodypaint as well. Also we use airbrush for waterproof temporary tattoos. Please refer to these pages galleries for these styles.
Way do a full airbrush look?
Airbrush looks are great for catwalk, this is because fewer makeup brushes touch models, therefore less cleaning of normal makeup brushes between models and less brush kits to carry. Especially when you have people of different needs like all vegan brush, prone to cold sores etc.
As you can see below the more creative looks requiring bold colours on cheeks and the side of the face are done very quickly and therefore because of the nature of airbrush it blends quickly but dries fast. Other looks you can hardly see the blush. It does tke practise for this control of the airbrush.
Airbrush is nice to use with ameteur photographers who are just beging to use editing tools. This is because lines tend to be less harse so if the eye shadow accidently gets cut/altered in the editing programme it is not as noticable . Because of the pixel nature of the application of the product which helps smooth skin on camera, often this helps photographers but allowing them not to over edit the skin texture so people do not look plastic or have hundreds of filters on.
Why not do Full Airbrush Makeup?
Like all products and techniques there are limitations.
For example: Eyes are not the easiest thing to do with airbrush and it is often easier to hand brush eyeshadow. This is because the person has to be fully relaxed to have there lids airbrushes and needs to keep there eyes closed until the eye shadow is dry, some people's eye lids twitch throughout therefore the desired look cannot be achieved but airbrush.
Currently in the UK, we have limited beauty brands providing airbrush makeup and when they do, this is often limited to just foundation and contour colours with the odd blush and highlight. Therefore sourcing creative coloours it harder but not impossible.
Age of a person's skin and underlining health issues that thin the skin can be an issue. I have done mature models with airbrush, it is harder to do as you need to stretch the skin s you applied to the are so the makeup doesn't pool and the wait for this to dry before moving on to the next area. The main reason we do not do airbrush on mature people for camera of video is they often look out of focus.
